So this is a neat little contest that I joined last year.  It's really easy and fun.  You just come up with an opening line to a story.  It could be funny or dramatic, quirky or sad.  Whatever you want so long as it catches the readers eye.  Let's face it, if you don't have a good start to your story, the reader isn't going to get hooked and they probably won't make it to the middle of it, let alone the end.

I entered the contest last year.  It's actually really fun.  I kept jotting down sentences and then I had my friends and family vote on which three I should use.  (You can have up to three entries.)  It's a good way to practice writing first lines that really catch your reader.

Worse case scenario, you don't win. Still, you won't know until you try! Besides, no matter what, it's good practice.
